Rusty Moore - Case Study

Rusty Moore has been with us since May 2007. His site, FitnessBlackBook, gets around 3000 unique visitors per day. Just one of his pages makes him over $300 per month. Other pages and posts more or less than that.

He attributes his success to the training and examples he’s gotten here, the people he’s met because of his powerful presence and following in the fitness niche, and the content he puts up on his blog.

In this short interview he outlines how he is doing with his blog, what has made the difference for him in building the blog, and his plans for future growth. Learn from a senior fellow member of Blog Success!

It’s inspiring to hear about a success like this.

It makes it real and believable, and it’s good to see the site isn’t all about adsense, affiliate programs, and the usual suspects.

Keep up the good work, and I’ll try to follow your leads…

After a year and a half, Rustie heard a lot of negative comments, however he is using his blog to build more than 1100 comments to his posts.
Hi is on the fitness industry and making a success of his blogging experience.
His advice and the followers combine to build content and have faithful followers.
He feels he is not monetizing his blog to the fullest. However he is earning from $300 to $1.000, which is good for somebody who is working just 2 or 3 hours per day.
He is happy with the training he received and continue receiving and sharing.
For an extra income Rustie“s blog is delivering and as he builds his online readership he is building his customers base to go fully online.

This interview was really worth making the time to listen to. It was so interesting to hear the right questions being asked, such complete answers being given and Jack Humphrey’s commentary too - it makes such a change from the usual sales pitches thinly disguised as interviews!
    Motivational stuff! Thanks!

Fabulous interview. It is nice to here from somebody who believes that a steady dose of quality acheives greater success than a bunch of short term spammy techniques.

    Thanks Rusty!

Jack and Rusty, thanks for sharing this great information. It is great to hear from a non-guru who is successful! I checked out Rusty’s site and I see why he has had such fantastic results. Rusty’s advise to “stick with your niche” was valuable to me as my 3 month-old health and nutrition blog hasn’t done much just yet. But, I am going to keep on posting and building content.

    Thanks again guys!

    Thanks Jack and Rusty,

When you are down it is great to get one of these gems in the post which light the fires, stoke the engine and it is back to full steam a head captain.

Rust my brother you have done a great job and I hear in your words that stick ability is the great key to success.
When your down get up, when you come to a hill grit your teeth smile and run harder.

Thank you both for the inspiration.

    Thanks for the positive comments.

Add value first and the money will follow. It worked for Google…who built the best search engine on the internet and monetized it after they provided such an immense amount of value.

If you push for dollars too soon, people will be less likely to link to your content. If you want viral growth, keep Adsense and blatant affiliate promotions to a minimum.

Probably the best tip I have for new bloggers.

    Cheers,

    Rusty

Jack and Rusty, this interview was fantastic and encouraging. I checked out Fitnessblackbook and I really enjoy the writing where the personality is evident.

I tried to write with SEO in mind a little, but just went back to focusing on writing quality content. I want to build a readership as well, so providing value is so important to me. As I studied his blog, the monetization approach that he used is really subtle. I like it.

Since I continue to struggle with where to place the adsense code in the display ads to work properly, this presents another option.

    Thanks for sharing the interview.

    Great!

It has fueled my continued high
    level of determination to bring
    value to my target audience.

I want to say, the 16 Steps To
    Success Webinar was outstanding
Jack… Everything for me has increased
from increased value for my site
    visitors, increased traffic and my
    visitors have increased their length
    of time on my site.

I can’t wait to help more authors
    and writers!

Thank you for sharing the awesome
    interview!

Continue to have an AWESOME day!

I really enjoyed the interview and agree with all the comments on “creating content that matters”.

Being a subject matter expert often means you know too much and don’t have the ability to write in interesting and relevant ways.

Rusty seems far from bland! No wonder he’s successful in using his own voice and helping people as he puts it.

    Thanks for the interview.

Jack, I have been a loyal follower of your advice for several years because you keep in mind the average person seeking to find success with an online business. You’ve done it again sharing Rusty Moore’s interview and coming up with Blog Talk Monitor.

I really enjoyed Rusty’s interview and heard some great motivating information for the ordinary blog marketer. No Fluff!

I am truly impressed with what he has done to get 70 to 80 average comments per post. Wow - that gives many hope and persistence. I was a little surprised to hear he does not monetize his blog at FitnessBlackBook.com.

It was refreshing to hear he gained his strong following through content that used his own personality and voice.

Thanks for all that you do for us non-guru people.

This interview was very useful and to the point. It highlights some of the important things to remember as a blogger - like sticking to a course of action instead of constantly deviating to a “better idea.”

Thanks for introducing me to this site Jack. I’ve been struggling with keeping the weight off and it’s good to see a blogger on this level who actually knows what he’s talking about.

I can’t tell you how much being your subcriber has bettered my life over the last year. Your info is useful, valuable, and has the potential to change lives.

    Thanks again Jack!

Not bad for a person holding a full time job. Perhaps his success is due to the unique nature of the blog moving away from cookie cutter posts.
Two to three hours for creating a post !

Rusty uses the same site theme as Jack does! Was it unintentionally? I would add one column left with Adsense yet.

Great and inspiring. Rusty, thanks for the reminder. I think many of us, advanced or beginner, need to keep the simple things first. Provide value and proper content for our readers, and the blessings will follow. I do keep things in check even when I see someone making what appears to be a ton of money. I try not to become envious or covetous, but stay the course and work on my own agenda… well, mine and my audience!

    Keep up the great info!

Terrific interview! I know from past experience that a lot of new marketers come online and do exactly what they should’nt do - jump around from oportunity to opportunity hoping to hit it big.

Glad to here some give the good advice about sticking to your plan no matter what distractions you encounter. Focus adapt and modify what your doing and you’ll make progress.

    Regards,
    Ed

Thanks Rusty and Jack - very encouraging interview. I took copious notes. Rusty, your advice to newbies in your response above, is very sound - congrats. I think this softly, softly approach with the focus on giving rather than getting is even more necessary today. Seth Godin, the creator of Squidoo, talks about (and practices) Permission Marketing and his comments are certainly consistent with your views Rusty. It obviously works very well for Seth.

It’s nice to hear that. It’s not easy to determine whether information on the Internet is legitimate or correct. There is a lot of inaccurate and deceitful information on web sites, in e-mails, and even in news and newsgroups.
